Roger Skitts Layout
The following description is in Roger Skitts own words and photographs were taken by Roger.
Picture # 1
The room is approximately 8 feet 9 inches wide and about 13 feet long. The door is at the same end of the room as the window, leaving three largely uncluttered walls. Picture #1 is taken from the doorway and shows the majority of the layout. The baseboards across the end of the room are 8 feet 9 inches long by 2 feet wide, comprising of two standard baseboards and a small piece one 'unit' long in the far left corner, this piece was cut from a half size baseboard.
The boards along the right hand wall are 8 feet long by 3 feet wide, giving an overall length of 10 feet. The width of 3 feet is achieved by cutting a baseboard in half lengthways and bolting the half to the side of a standard baseboard. The joint can be clearly seen in the foreground. Note; this gives a very strong structure, but it requires an awful lot of joining blocks. All the cutting was done before assembly of the basesboards and the little blocks were screwed and glued to the free ends of the cross members at this stage. these blocks will allow a plain panel to be added later, to complete the structure.

Picture # 2
Picture # 2 shows the end of the right hand baseboards. The legs furthest from the wall have been attached in a 'non-standard' position, i.e. one unit further out, to avoid too much overhang. This required a little drilling and some of the joining blocks had to be rotated 180 degrees.

Picture # 3
Picture # 3 shows the end of the left hand baseboards. These are 8 feet long by 3 feet wide, as before, plus a small section 1 foot 3 inches by 2 feet wide built from the remainder of the piece used in the far left corner. The construction is similar to that used for the right hand side. The overall length along the left hand wall is 11 feet 3 inches.

Picture # 4
Picture # 4 shows a close up of the M10 nuts and bolts connecting the 2 foot and 1 foot sections of the side baseboards together. This gives a very strong structure which is not intended to be dismanted. The baseboards are connected together end to end using the hand wheel bolts and captive pronged tee nuts and may be separated if necessary. The legs consist of the upper sections only , but they do have the adjustable feet screwed and glued in place to give an extra inch and a half. All Photos: Roger Skitt

Picture # 6 shows another later development of Picture # 3, this time from the other side of the fiddle yard. Note the 'Track Risers' on the left. More risers on order?
